Ligue 2

Ligue 2 is the second tier of professional football (soccer) in France. Operated by the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP), it sits below Ligue 1, the top division of French football. Ligue 2 features a number of clubs that compete annually to achieve promotion to Ligue 1, with the top teams qualifying for promotion while the bottom teams face relegation to the Championnat National, which is the third tier. The league was established in 1933 and has undergone various name changes and structural modifications over the decades. It showcases a range of historically significant clubs and serves as an important platform for developing talent and providing competitive football outside of the top tier. Each season, clubs in Ligue 2 participate in a series of matches to accumulate points, with the aim of securing a position that allows for promotion to the higher division.
